All in place. Helmet on head, gloves: ready, no matter what, to deploy that mix of experience, flexibility and technological innovation that has distinguished the Stancanelli Group’s work for years.

Palermo, Catania, Acitrezza: the activities and works do not stop. And while in Palermo – in Carini, to be precise – work on the new Centre for Biotechnology and Biomedical Research (CBRB), a 25,000 square metre building, is getting underway, in Catania (construction of the LIDL supermarket) and in Acitrezza (renovation of the Hotel Malavoglia) it is nearing completion. In detail.

IL THE CBRB Ri.MED IN CARINI (PA)

The Ri.MED Foundation’s Centre for Biotechnology and Biomedical Research (CBRB), a 25,000 sqm building, will be located in Carini, a few kilometres from Palermo airport.

The Centre – a new hub of medical excellence and research – will enable Sicily to take a leading position in the development of new-generation drugs, vaccines and medical devices, attracting leading researchers to Palermo and retaining Italy’s best doctors and scientists. The Ri.Med research centre will employ principal investigators (up to 50, leaders of the various research teams), researchers, technicians, fellows, fellows, administrators, assistants, animal handlers, service staff, IT engineers, etc.

The project leader for the CBRB is Hok, an international design, architecture, engineering and planning firm with 23 offices worldwide.

Impresa Ernesto Stancanelli s.r.l. has been entrusted, to date, with the excavation and earthmoving works as a subcontractor to Italiana Costruzioni, the lead contractor for the project (General Contractor for Execution). There are 18 units of our company in the field, with 9 excavators and 3 trucks.

LIDL STORE – CATANIA PORTO

The construction of the LIDL store, called Catania Porto, involved the demolition of an industrial building dedicated to warehouses and some annexed rooms, for over 25,000 cubic metres; the re-functioning of the site, with the removal of the fences on via Acquicella Porto, to improve the retail activity’s visibility and accessibility, and the construction of the new shop structure, consisting of a precast pre-stressed concrete structure, with a single bay and a single-pitch roof.

The retail space occupies approximately 80% of the covered area: to the north are the warehouses and, in a small portion to the east, on the first floor are the administrative offices. The large car parks, partly shaded by steel shelters, complete and occupy the remainder of the site.

We would like to emphasise that the project did not involve any “land consumption”, since an area that was already occupied by an old warehouse was reclaimed. The main feature of the project is its marked propensity for environmental sustainability, thanks to the decision to use renewable energy sources and the installation, in the parking lot, of charge points for electric cars and motorbikes. Finally, the installation of public street lighting and the creation of green space in the areas surrounding the supermarket achieved the objective of improving and making the composition more aesthetically functional to the neighbourhood in which the complex is located.

MALAVOGLIA INN HOTEL – ACITREZZA (CT)

The project at the Malavoglia Inn Hotel in Acitrezza – a 3-star family hotel – required us to completely renovate and re-function the building, while maintaining the final mission: that of renewing the shape of a well-known, somewhat historic, accommodation facility with modern services and a modern style of hospitality

The project, by architect Santa Contarino, involved demolition of all partitions, installations and finishes, retaining only the structures. With respect to the latter, which had deteriorated considerably in some places, major reinforcement, jacketing and steel counter-beam work had to be carried out, following the design of engineer Gabriele Correnti.

The project distributes the hall, restaurant area and part of the rooms on the ground floor, which then continue on the first floor. In the basement there are conference rooms and services, while on the roof there is a scenic roof-bar with a view of the sea (which is about 50 metres from the structure) and light steel roofing.
