The project, which took fourth place overall in the design competition organised by the Sicilian Region, was designed by Stancanelli Russo Associati s.r.l. in collaboration with Modostudio Cibinel – Laurenti – Martocchia Architetti Associati (Rome) and Geol. Salvatore Palillo.
The design for the Region’s new Directional Centre was aimed at minimising the anthropic impact of the work on the existing structure as much as possible, respecting its morphology (a lava bank outcropping at an elevation about 15 metres higher than the main road axis that runs alongside it, the Catania circumvallazione) and indeed enhancing the surrounding rock garden.
