For the construction of the new LIDL shop, called Catania Porto, we designed an intervention that did not involve land consumption, by recovering the space occupied by an old warehouse. The objective of environmental sustainability was also pursued through the choice of renewable energy sources, the provision of spaces in the parking area reserved for recharging electric cars and motorbikes with the installation of special columns, and the design of green areas to improve the aesthetic functionality of the urban fabric of the district.
Our Intervention
After the demolition of an industrial building dedicated to warehouses and some related premises, amounting to more than 25,000 cubic metres, we reorganised the lot with interventions also aimed at improving the visibility and accessibility of the commercial activity. The new shop structure consists of a single-bay precast pre-stressed concrete structure with a single-pitch roof. The sales space occupies approximately 80 per cent of the covered area, with a space to the north dedicated to warehouses and a portion to the east to administrative offices. Large car parks, partly shaded by steel canopies, complete the lot, designed and built by the Stancanelli Group with a focus on environmental sustainability.
