Multifunctional and innovative, the Torre del Grifo Village is one of the most cutting edge of sports constructions made in Italy and while also being one of Italy’s largest private sports complexes. Catania Calcio’s headquarters is a meeting point between the team and townspeople, holds both specific areas dedicated to sport, and commercial spaces for leisure and entertainment, which are created in complete harmony with the local area. Particular attention was paid to limiting the impact on the landscape and the design of green spaces.
The aim of the project was to create a “self-sufficient” facility capable of generating the economic resources needed to maintain itself, thanks to the sports and commercial spaces open to the public, and at the same time, to create a useful and enjoyable space for both sports clubs and local people.
Our intervention
The project included the construction of four regulation football pitches for different leagues, the headquarters of the Catania Calcio club, a hotel for the main team, a guesthouse for the youth teams and a large multipurpose centre on four levels, housing fitness rooms, changing rooms, a wellness centre, dining and entertainment areas and two swimming pools. The latter was one of the first large seismically isolated buildings in southern Italy, for which a double-curved glass façade was engineered.
The project was completed within the timeframe agreed with the client, one and a half years from laying the foundation stone to the inauguration (excluding planning).
