Project objectives

The Ekipe Club multi-sports centre, built on the slopes of Etna just outside Catania, was conceived by the architects of Studio Puleo as a two-part building made of exposed reinforced concrete in which the finish of the casting itself is a decorative element both inside and outside the building.

Decades of experience in the sector and careful construction techniques have allowed the Ernesto Stancanelli construction company, in collaboration with the Stancanelli Russo Associati engineering studio, to be chosen as the ideal partner for the construction of the entire complex with attention to each and every detail, thanks also to the meticulous research into the formwork and design that is now present on the surfaces.

Our intervention

Inside the structure, which is mainly on several levels above ground, with mixed sloping and flat roofing, we have built three indoor swimming pools, a playroom, various fitness rooms, a catering area and all the services supporting the activities of the individual areas.

The volumes that make up the structure ideally divide the 12,000 square metre area that houses the complex into four parts, creating an outdoor parking area and football fields. The central building, consisting mainly of two box-shaped bodies, built using very slender reinforced concrete partitions with framed structures, is the core of the design idea. Larger and wider than the other volumes, it is slightly inclined, almost as if it were resting on the slight slope in the centre of the lot, and contains different spaces within, which fit together in a complex interplay of double heights and irregular cuts.
