The objectives of the work

The project, developed in collaboration with Commapartners, Claudio Consoli, Melita Pennisi and Salvatore Palillo, included the demolition and reconstruction of Pavilion G and the re-functioning of the third floor of Pavilion F, as well as the construction of a new Emergency Room facility.

Il nostro intervento

In addition to project management, our firm was also responsible for the coordination of specialist services and design using the BIM platform, which facilitates the interaction of all project stakeholders (architects, engineers, builders, contractors and operators).
The Emergency Department was redesigned by adapting and remodelling the existing rooms and expanding them, including creating a pathway for patients suffering from the Covid-19 coronavirus. The new Pavilion G is an nZEB (nearly Zero Energy Building), i.e. a highly sustainable, energy-efficient building, designed to maximise energy consumption and minimise operating and maintenance costs by adopting strategies and technological innovations that make it state-of-the-art also in terms of seismic insulation. And finally, the third floor of Pavilion F, dedicated to Day Surgery, has been re-functionalised, as has the connection between the two pavilions, and a portion of the pavilion has been reconstructed in steel to ensure maximum flexibility in plan.

Technical Pills

The Stancanelli Russo studio opted for rapidly assembled and manufactured materials: the building is in fact entirely composed of steel structures, with dry partitions (plasterboard and fibre cement, in particular), as well as a ventilated façade.
The executive design covered all construction aspects: structure, envelope, general, mechanical, electrical, medical and sanitary systems, acoustically and thermally insulated partitions, vertical and horizontal. It also had to address the issues related to the insertion of the new extension, and related modifications, into the original layout, within the structure’s fire-fighting planning (modifying and integrating new evacuation routes and fire-fighting devices) and anti-seismic planning (providing state-of-the-art seismic isolators, which disconnect the pillars from the bottom zone and limit the accelerations of any earthquake).

Object of intervention

Renovation of the DaySurgery located on the 3rd floor of Ed. F, demolition and reconstruction of Ed. G, construction of a new Accident and Emergency department.
